A little more progress.....

Well saturday and sunday I hunkered down, decided to bring my "month off" to an end and jump around from project to project - on the plate : work on the Googar munny, image for an art print with FnHarsh, t-shirt design for Lonestar posters, sketches for an upcoming Incubus poster, and put in a little more time on the commission paintings....

Here's how the paintings are shaping up...I went back in to the hair on the painting on the left to tighten it up before putting the light source on it...also shaped the body a little bit better on the right painting, so she didnt look so much like chewed up bubblegum...note to self : in the future make sure to get photo reference. It's definatly been a test in my knowledge of my anatomy and structure knowledge from my CCAD days, something that through slowly stylizing my work has gotten a little rusty...but it's starting to pull together....
Also here's some progress pics on the Googar munny...definately a lot more challenging then the last one..still got a long way to go, but you get the idear.....

Kind of feels like I'm selling my kid...oh well

I just got my Circus Punk back from the Mystery City group show I was in this past summer...anyway Goadie wants to get people some good presents this Christmas, so I threw it up on the virtual auction block to see if some suck-er I mean some lucky human being would like to buy it. This piece was a lot of fun to do and features an acrylic paintjob as well as a 3-D custom arrow jutting out of her chest. So let the bidding begin!!!!!

GOOGAR SMASH!!

Well, after spending all day yesterday working on a painting, I'm going to take a break and show some attention to the blank Munny I've had collecting dust for the past five months...here's a sketch of what I'm going to do and the photo he's based off. Never before has a baby struck fear in my heart.

Pop Rocked 2 : The Aftermath

The show went great...hats off to both Powerhouse Factories and Denis Mutter for putting together a great show with a very respectable turnout and nice mix of folks. Here's a few pics snapped by Randy Hobson of Stolen Sounds......anyway, got to talk to a lot of interesting people, sell some posters, and shoot rubberbands point blank at peoples' weak spots.

Melvins original art auction

Well, I haven't done auctions for awhile, so out of boredom thought I would try my hand at it again. Starting off, I've put up the original lineart for The Melvins art print I did this fall. As for the history of this piece, I was approached by Dave Mayer of Philaarts fame to do an anti-gigposter advertising the days off on their fall tour. Anyway, go check it out and give the gift of half nekkidness and nearsighted stuffed ladybugs for Christmas. Also included will be the original sketch I did as well.....

People seem really excited about this auction, especially Dave Mayer. Here's what he had to say about it.

December

First post on what hopefully won't turn out to be a boring exercise in self indulgence. Well, it's December 2006, and like last year I am taking the month off to focus on painting and a few straggling jobs.

I've always had a unreasonable fear of painting - not with watercolor, but with acrylics or oil paints...well after some bad experiences in college with oil paints, that medium is pretty much off the table, but acrylics are another story. For the last couple years I've implemented little "training wheels" in my paintings in the form of thick linework, so I could deal with stuff almost like a coloring book. Unfortunately this has prevented me from painting realistically......currently I am working on two commission pieces and have taken off those training wheels and am really working hard to make some real breakthroughs in my painting skills....so far so good...I was having some rocky moments with the painting on the right, but a bout twenty hours into had one of those moments where you feel like a light went off in your head. Here's a couple more posters....last night I spent a couple hours working solely on the shoulder blade area of the angel with her wings ripped out piece.....

Hopefully by the end of the month I'll have two fnished pieces that I'll be really proud of.

By the way, that easel is probably about the best thing I've ever bought for myself. Thank you , me.
